Meet Jordy van der Mije. From Warehouse Floor to Strategic Core.
Since joining Thermo Electric in 2011, Jordy van der Mije has become a familiar and valued face, so much so that he jokes he’s now “part of the furniture.” 😂
What started as a role in logistics has evolved into something much broader. Today, Jordy combines the responsibilities of Buyer and Logistics Foreman, a role that perfectly matches his skills in coordination, communication, and adaptability.
He thrives on the variety his role offers. Whether he’s creating purchase orders, preparing work instructions, or leading his team in the warehouse, no two days are the same, and that’s exactly how he likes it.
His proudest shift so far?
Transitioning from a purely logistical role into procurement, a change that continues to challenge and motivate him.
Jordy has learned over time that listening is one of the most important skills in his toolkit, especially when it comes to keeping teams aligned and ensuring smooth collaboration across departments. Encouraging teamwork is a top priority for him, and he finds the greatest satisfaction when individual contributions come together to achieve shared goals.
Outside of work, Jordy is drawn to speed and adrenaline. He’s an avid Formula 1 fan and has a love for thrill-seeking adventures like skydiving and bungee jumping. One of his most memorable trips was to Chile, where he fell in love with the Spanish language and culture, something he continues to explore.
To keep challenging himself, Jordy recently started a new professional development course, and is already applying lessons learned in his day-to-day work. In five years, he hopes to look back proudly on continued personal and professional growth within Thermo Electric, having taken bold steps and shown the courage to make decisions without hesitation.
When asked what advice he’d give to newcomers in the industry, Jordy is clear:
“Dare to make mistakes. That’s how you learn fastest.”
He’s also learned a thing or two the hard way, like the importance of wearing safety shoes, a lesson he won’t soon forget!
And his personal motto?
“Kon het maar altijd maandag zijn.” (If only every day could be Monday.)
Thank you, Jordy, for your initiative, humour, and steady presence over the years. We look forward to many more with you!
